A listening service is a safe space for you to talk in private to a trained listener who won’t interrupt or judge. You’ll be able to share anything that is on your mind. It isn’t counselling and we don’t give advice about what you share. Our one-to-one sessions are offered in a range of ways, over the telephone or face to face.
There will be time to reflect back on what you have shared to help you reach your own decisions and find your own ways forward. We can also offer signposting to other forms of help, if you feel that would be beneficial.
Who can benefit?
We all live in an increasingly hectic, noisy world. It can be hard find a friend to give us time simply listen to whatever is troubling us. Research shows that talking therapies are beneficial to people’s health and well-being.
We believe that when someone is given the chance to talk they feel respected, valued and empowered. Our service is available to any adult in Grenoside and surrounding areas and of any faith or none.
Who we are
This local listening service is provided by volunteers from across local communities and co-ordinated by St Mark's Church, Grenoside. All volunteer listeners have completed professional listening training, are DBS checked and will ensure confidentiality at all times.
Hear Chris Knight and Linda Gascoyne talking about the Listening service on Radio Sheffield - go to 2:42 of the broadcast from 18th April.
