CHRISTIAN AID WEEK 11 – 17 May 2025 Click here to donate
Welcome to Christingle 2020. This year, for our Christingle service at St Mark’s we are joining with the National Christingle service put together by the Church of England and the Children’s Society. This is a service that took place on the third Sunday of Advent and has been made available for us to use. We’d love to invite you to watch and take part at 4pm on Christmas Eve and allow our lights to shine together. If you can’t make it at that time then you can choose your own time from Sunday 20th December. You can join in with it further down this page.
As part of Christingle we would usually be supporting the work of the Children’s Society and this year is no different. If anything, support for this vital work is more important than ever. You can watch this video to find out more.
If you feel able to donate and would like to give, we have set up a giving page which you can use to make online donations. Please speak to Helen Dawson if you like to donate in another way.
The Christingle service
If you have a Christingle in a bag, then you have everything you need. If not, you might like to find an orange, satsuma or even a potato…something to represent the world. You will also need cocktail sticks, sweets or dried fruit, a candle and some red ribbon. Be creative if you don’t have these things! During the service a scavenger hunt is suggested to find other things to help you think about the meaning of Christingle. You can make your Christingle as your watch. The lighting of the Christingle takes place 40 mins into the service. Alternatively, you might just like to light a simple candle to represent Jesus, the light in the darkness.
You can download colouring and prayer sheets here to help you reflect and understand the meaning of the Christingle….
