A Warm Welcome?
If you have visited St Mark's in the last few months you may know that the church gas boiler is no longer working and we are finding it difficult to heat the church on cold days. Although our gas engineer has managed to repair the boiler in the past, this is not now possible as the spare parts are obsolete.
A few years ago, the Church of England implemented a Net Zero Carbon by 2030 policy which means that we are required to work within its guidelines to a find a replacement heating system. This means that, unfortunately, we cannot simply buy and fit a new gas boiler. Instead, our Buildings Committee is involved in a very lengthy process involving an Energy Audit, our church architect, the heating advisor at the diocese and grant applications as we consider all of the options.
Our priority will always be to provide a warm and comfortable church environment which can be enjoyed by all ages as it is at present and this does mean that after the summer we may need to move into the church hall for a while.
We know that, whatever solution is recommended, we will need a significant amount of funding. Once we have a better idea of the amount of money we will embark on a series of fundraising events and initiatives which we hope will be fun, meaningful and well publicised.
Until that time, we are encouraging everyone in the parish, families and friends to sign up to a company, Easyfundraising, which helps to raise money for your selected charity each time you make a purchase from participating online shops. It costs you nothing. Every little helps. The app also works with a limited number of actual shops. A video below gives a short outline of how the system works. For detailed instructions on how to sign up to Easyfundraising please download this pdf or click on the logo below.
Sunday morning services in the Church are designed to be welcoming to everyone of any age, nationality or denomination.
We aim to be an accessible church, providing for the needs of all, allowing everyone to access, experience and share in God's love and worship.
See the Worship with us page for details.
